Hey Howie!

Deal or No Deal...

What's the deal with this show? My younger son and I are addicted.

We yell and scream at the t.v.

We know which case to open...
why don't they listen to us?

We know when they should take the deal...
why don't they listen to us?

And then there are the models, but that's another show in and of itself.

I call it...

Real or No Real!

This show is almost as good as ice cream.

Isn't this the Let's Make a Deal for the new millennium? The show's original host, Monty Hall, is Canadian, from Winnipeg, or more fondly referred to as Winterpeg. Howie Mandel is from Toronto...and the local stories about him and his antics abound. He's married to the sister of a classmate of mine from high school.
Thanks for choosing a Canadian connection today.

Pearl: even though the 2 names have "deal" in them...they are nothing alike. Let's Make a Deal had people dressing up like Halloween. They had to choose for prizes behind 3 separate curtains on the stage. The audience was "NUTS"!
Howie and Monty...both Canadian Jews. Howie doesn't live far from me.

How wierd - I'm actually watching Deal or No Deal as I read this! (Or should I say the TV is on the channel where its on...)

I actually think its like, ummm, terrible. It requires absolutely no skill, no knowledge and really no intelligence. I can't beleive its on prime time. Gotta admit the models are "nice" - but kinda ridiculous too.

The way I see it, its just passing time before the most important show of the night comes on - American Idol! My wife and I think this is the best Idol yet, with the most talented singers ever. Hopefully Bucky gets voted off tonight...

Wanderer: LOL. I'm hysterically laughing while reading your comment.
It's so true...it's the "worst" best show ever! (no skill is an understatement...Bella could probably play with her eyes closed)
And you're right...Amer. Idol is where it's at...although the poor little guy got voted off tonight.

I felt so bad for him! He is so cute! But we probably think that because we are the mothers of sons. It is funny, having only watched 2 episodes of AI in my life (thanks to BARRY, the MAN), you become attached to the people even though you don't know them. I don't know that I will watch to the end of the season, but one does get attached!

I did *not* like Kevin, so I'm not too upset, even if I did think it would be bye-bye Bucky.

Bucky will probably go next week - that will leave all the super-talented people in the competition.

I can't watch "Deal or No Deal" for too long; there really is no skill involved but deciding whether or not to take it... and most of the people have no clue as to whether they should or not. It's fun to play, and even okay to watch, but it's not a great show.

E.K.: he was cute, like a puppy, but really should not be there. And look out...you will get hooked if you're not careful!

Ezzie: You are right...after Bucky, the most talented are left. (although, please forgive me, but Kelly Pickler makes Jessica Simpson look like a member of Mensa)
Deal or No Deal is horrible, that's what makes it so great! (actually, I don't know how much more I can take of the show...it's completely void of skill and the contestants are all greedy, and don't take the deal when they should!

Is that really Howie Mandel? WTF happened to him??

Howie Mandel has no doubt been eating too much Boston Pizza.
He likes the polished globe look for his head too.
Does anyone recall his Bobby character before it became animated? He'd sing "It's My Potty..."

H.O.H.: Yeah, my son was telling me the show is on all over the world!

P.T.: It's called AGE! He's exactly my age, don't know if he actually went bald or shaves the noggin...but I remember the good ol days of St. Elsewhere when he had a mullet.

Pearl: my kids watched Bobby's world when they were little. I love that show. Especially the uncle who called him "hey Bobbo"!

Though I haven't seen the show, I LOVE Howie Mandel, especially when he does his segments on Leno. It's so funny. Hubby and I are always in tears by the time its over.

Pickler is so much fun! :)

S.T.: do you remember the t.v. show, St. Elsewhere? Great medical show in the '80's (pre Dr. McDreamy). Howie Mandel had a great role on the show.

Ezzie: nobody ever said dense isn't fun!!! (Simon called her "ballsy" and she asked what that means...Yikes!)

Best Howie Mandel shtick I ever saw:

In the late seventies, I believe, when he'd left the Toronto comedy club scene to make it big in L.A., I saw him on the Merv Griffin Show or the Mike Douglas Show. The host announces his name and out comes Howie, unrolling Saran Wrap and placing it all over his chair or part of the couch or wherever it was he was sitting on the set. He then sat down atop the plastic wrap.
The host asked what he'd done, why he'd done it.
Howie: "Well, they told me backstage to make myself feel at home...so I did." (and for all of you who don't quite "get it": plastic-covered furniture was once a very big thing...just check with blogger Danny Miller and his memories of his grandparents' apt.)

Pearl: that's funny! I wrote a post about that too...
one word...Plastics!

Check out the chairs in this post.

P.T.: forget the chairs...that little boy is ADORABLE (couldn't be you, could it?) ;)
