Why write a blog, anyway? How do you get it right, so people will want to comment? What makes me think that what I have to say is worth reading? I suspect, that no one will be reading this... except me.
I have been following blogs for about 9 months now...fascinated with the writings and lives of people I will probably never meet. Almost feels voyeuristic at times. It's such a strange phenomenon. If it isn't already a sociology college course, it should be...The study of blogging 101. I suppose it's the equivalent of the pen-pal, only instead of penning with one person, you pen with 100's (ha, who am I kidding...as if 100 people are reading this...well of course I recently found out that 87 people did!)
I don't know if I will continue this pursuit or not. As I said in a previous post...positive reinforcement works well for me. If I get no comments, I probably won't continue. But then again, that brings me back around to the original question...why write a blog anyway?
If it's for positive reinforcement from others...I better quit now! But if it's for myself, to discover what creative talents might be waiting inside...then I guess I'll hang on for a little while longer...(but a little reinforcement would be nice).

you can start with a fan club of one -- me!
and i certainly know who will be the second member of the fan club... now if we can just let him know you're up and running!
thanks Pearl...a fan club of one is okay with me...
and "you know who"...knows!
decide what you want to get out of it, whether it's comments, or just to express something that you've always wanted to write. i've been posting for over a year. the comments aren't always there, even when i write something i really like. the drive has to be internal.
have fun.
Thanks Doc...I will always heed the words of a guy in a puffy shirt...I appreciate you taking the time to comment. (Love the Coffehouse, by the way)
Agreed on all points.
I feel like you tap into my thoughts exactly. I too, have been debating this issue back and forth. It does get kinda lonely not having the conversations with others especially when a post that you think might lead to some great feedback doesn't seem to. However, there is always statcounter to help with the ego. At least you know some folks are reading you, even if they are coming from the strangest places.
Hey sweettooth...I went on to your blog...you have the same set-up I do, you like the same music, movies...who are you, my younger clone?! Thanks for stopping by...I will continue to read your blog too.
A couple of sites you may want to visit:
blogrolling.com - get a blogroll and put up your favorite sites. You will then show up on other people's lists and they will come over to check you out.
sitemeter.com - get a meter so you can tell who's coming over, even if they don't leave comments.
http://referer.org/ - this is a nice little way to get automatic links on your site to people who refer to you. It also encourages others to link to you.
p.t: I will look into those, thanks for the advice!
