Pink Elephants

It's back...the dreaded writer's block.

Not that I'm some great writer...au contraire.

But writing has become, for me, what yoga is to others. It is relaxing, releasing, and puts me in another state of being.

I have gone 12 days without writing, and I feel like a junkie coming down from a high.

Crazy...who would have ever thought that I would become addicted to writing. But, I am.

What does a junkie do, though, when they can't find their drug? When they can't steal it, purchase it, or borrow it?

This has been my experience for the past 12 days. I haven't figured out what to write about. Nothing has hit me.

Perhaps the following plays a part in my blockage:

It's been hotter than hell here.
There is a raging war in Israel.
Things continue to worsen in Iraq.
Gas prices are not what they were when I first started driving.
Mel Gibson is an anti-semite (ha! big surprise).
Lindsey Lohan should be spanked (although, come to think of it, she'd probably enjoy that).
American Idol won't return for way too long.
I still haven't had a vacation this summer (and won't)
Mr. Cruisin' is still working on rebuilding our patio overhang.
There isn't a good movie to go see.

Okay, rant over.

Can these be the causes of writer's block? Hard to know.

I only know, I miss my drug of choice. I wish I could find it again. I am willing to beg, borrow, and steal just to find my ability to write again.

I guess I'll just have to sit by and wait patiently.

In the meantime, I hope I don't get the shakes, or start seeing little pink elephants.

It does seem like the world is going to hell right before our eyes, doesn't it? I'm not sure there's anything to do that will help psychologically except grill meat and go target shooting.

As for the writer's block, I don't know what to tell you. You feel the desire to write and don't have a topic. I have dozen's of topics (could write entire posts on each of your short blurbs -- Israel, Mel Gibson, etc...) but zero desire. It no longer floats my boat.

How 'bout a guest post from Mr Cruisn?

I have been checking almost everyday to see if you had typed one of your wonderful posts.

Don't worry, I'm sure something will come up sooner or later!

Baleboosteh :)

P.S. I can't think (or do anything else much) either when it is hot!!

I think the block is over, that was good post, nothing earth shaking but it was good, you got that off your chest, which all of us boggers do from time to time. How bout a top ten list of everything you like or dislike, maybe some unknown facts about yourself, I had to do these a few times, just for fillers because I had nothing" don't tell anybody though" You did great keep it up

It is FAR too hot. Go grab a frappucino or an ice cream, and hopefully the temp will drop soon!

Writer's block is a bitch, isn't it!?

Part of your problem may be that you might believe that your posts have to always be hilariously funny, or deeply poignant, and there's nothing in between. Perhaps you're putting too much pressure on yourself to be "on".

Why not just write about the boring and mundane? Walk through the neighborhood, go grocery shopping, do your daily tasks, read other blogs...something is sure to trigger your brilliant mind and you'll present us with an equally wonderful post.

This post, as simple as it was, was great. The title and accompanying photo were keepers. I've been advised more than once by some guy I know in La-La Land who makes writing his living: "Brevity is best." Your title hits the mark perfectly.

Ah c'mon, we are all used to the heat here, 80% humidity is nothing. Where the hell did that come from.

I remember riding my bike around the Sepulveda Basin all summer long and never noticing the heat.

Did you ever go to Balboa Park to see fireworks?

Wendy: easy for you to say, relaxing on vacation! Thanks :)

Doc: yes, good bar-b-que will solve everything. Hmmmmm, Mr. Cruisin' guest post? (what if he's better than me?)

baleboosteh: Awww, you're so sweet. Your pictures are amazing.

CATC: Thanks! I like the idea of a list...let me ponder that one.

HOH: Sometimes it is hard to get yourself to sit down and write...I'm just frustrated because I can't think of WHAT to write.

Claire: are you kidding? Haagen Daz and I have already been quite friendly the last few days! Thanks for stopping by?

T.P.: your flattery will get you everywhere (except for another bag of jelly bellies)

Jack: I must say, today was like a fall day by comparison to what we've been having...saw fireworks once at Balboa...remember Devonshire Downs?

Jack Steiner said...

Devonshire Downs- Sure do. Went to the Factory of Nightmares many times.

What about Cicero Bros on Balboa. Remember when Gary Powers crashed there.

Today was great, felt cold. I loved it.

Hey Jack: I remember going to the big carnival there too.
I don't remember the crash, but Mr. Cruisin' remembers it very well.
The weather has been great the last two days!

The war took a lot out of me too...

anyhow, you need to watch Project Runway - it's pretty much all that's saving my summer (and giving me lots to talk about)!

cruisin-mom said...

Stepima: best part of project runway is Heidi saying Auf Wiedersehen! *kiss, kiss*

I'm with you, CM. Except I'm just not that into it these days. My mind is on other things going on in the world and truth is, at the end of the day I just don't seem to have the desire to sit and write.

Stacey: It seems to be going on with many of the usual blogs we follow...maybe it's the summer doldrums.
